Embracing Pain & Joy

Hello Friends! Wow! What a year! 2019 is over and can I say it’s, been, a real, deal, of a year! I was led to the word EMBRACE as my word for the year I have positioned in my heart to find ways to incorporate it into all areas of my life.

Over the course of the year, I found that word popping up in many ways whether it be in the workplace, personally, or even with my mental and physical health.  I quickly learned from experiences embracing doesn't always mean the embrace is positive.  A lot of times the embrace was to prepare for a hard, impact with a lesson to be learned attached.

As I reflect on my year of embrace, I found myself simultaneously embracing extreme opposites Pain and Joy, learning sometimes to truly experience Joy you must to embrace the pain attached to it.  Let’s face it, life is hard and but embracing the love of God and taking on his Joy gives us the strength we need to endure but how can we do it, how can you still carry the joy of the Lord in hard times?

Here are three (3) practical things I found myself doing this year to EMBRACE the Pain and EMBRACE Pure Joy.

Romans 12:12 Let this hope burst forth within you, releasing a continual joy. Don’t give up in a time of trouble, but commune with God at all times.

1. Embrace Community: Find people who will hold you up when you cannot go any further. It’s important to have people who can pray for you and help keep your heart postured towards hope and filled with encouragement.  My community keeps me going - I come alive when I am around my community.  The support is amazing! Love each of you!

2. Embrace Self-Care: Joy can be found in the simplest things.  Stop for a moment and just breathe. Take a moment and create a list of 10 -20 you haven’t done in a long time that make you come alive and yep, DO IT!

Go hiking, try painting, go karaoke, cook a fancy meal, see a movie, just drop the busy life for a couple of hours and just Go do it!  It will help you unwind and release joy in your heart and your environment.

3. Embrace the Call to Commune: It’s in those moments when we are tense, anxious, and are struggling to hear Gods voice we are missing the call to Commune. Our tank of joy is probably low, and he is probably wanting for us to come closer so he can refuel us. God wants to give you strength and joy in those moments when we commune with Him. Spend some time with Him. Embrace those precious moments with HIM. They are well worth it!

Here is a video of more of my most joyful moments captured this year.

Love you friends!

Hello 2020!!  Its going to be a great year!
